Video doesn't stop at the end of the shoot. For it to be seen, it must be adapted to today's codes: short formats, silent playback, and voracious algorithms. Here's how to turn your recordings into view-generating machines.
1.Why do short formats (Shorts/Reels) dominate?
Viewers scroll fast and decide within seconds. Platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) push short vertical formats to retain users. It's no longer an option, it's the discovery standard for redirecting to longer content.
2.Shorts, reels, clips... what's the difference?
It's the same format (9:16 vertical), but on different platforms: 'Shorts' on YouTube, 'Reels' on Instagram/Facebook, 'TikToks' on TikTok. The advantage? A single vertical video can be posted on all 3 platforms simultaneously to multiply touchpoints.

3.What's the ideal length for a short video?
Between 15 and 60 seconds in most cases. Below 15s, it's hard to deliver value. Platforms now accept longer short-form videos (up to 3 minutes for YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels), but attention drops quickly beyond one minute.
4.Why subtitles are MANDATORY
A large share of social media videos is watched WITHOUT sound (on transit, at the office...). Without subtitles, those viewers drop off within seconds. Subtitles serve both accessibility and reach.
5.Automatic vs human subtitles: the crash test
AI does most of the work, but the rest (proper nouns, technical terms, wordplay) is crucial. An incorrect subtitle looks amateur. The rule: use AI to transcribe, but ALWAYS proofread.
6.Burned-in subtitles or SRT files?
For Shorts/Reels, we prefer 'burn-in' subtitles (embedded in the video) with a dynamic font to capture attention. For long videos (YouTube, LinkedIn), the SRT file is better because it helps SEO (keywords are read by the algorithm).
7.What time to publish to maximize views?
There's no universal magic time, but trends: morning (8-9 AM) for commutes, lunch (12-1 PM) and evening (6-9 PM). Test, analyze your stats, and adapt to YOUR audience.
8.Consistency or virality: do you have to choose?
Consistency beats virality. The algorithm rewards creators who publish often. Better 3 'okay' videos a week than one 'perfect' video a month. Create a sustainable production system.
9.Tools that really help
Don't waste time, use the right tools:
Cutting tools
OpusClip or Munch to automatically transform a long video into multiple shorts.
Subtitle tools
Captions (App), Submagic or Premiere Pro (speech-to-text feature).
Publishing tools
Metricool or Buffer to schedule your posts on all platforms at once.
10.From recording to distribution: the ideal workflow
Film in high quality (4K horizontal). Edit the long episode. Cut 3 to 5 vertical clips (Shorts). Subtitle everything. Publish the long version on YouTube/Podcast, and the shorts on TikTok/Reels/Shorts throughout the week to bring people to the long version.
11.ForCast.studio's position
We deliver raw or edited files ready to be 'snacked'. The Pro Edit and Live Cut packages include 15 social media shorts per hour recorded: you leave with your long episode AND vertical clips ready to post. We handle the technical side, you handle the distribution.
FAQ
Can I film vertically directly at the studio?
Yes. The simplest way is to crop the 4K image to extract a vertical shot from a wide shot. For a camera dedicated to vertical, talk to us before the session.
